Conductive Technologies (CTI) can achieve practically any backlit aesthetic effect for display or membrane switch illumination. We accomplish this through the ideal combination of materials, our unique capabilities for fusing art, and our sophisticated printing techniques. As a pioneer of embedded switch face illumination, CTI provides latitude for specifying a wide range of light source options.

Incandescent Backlighting

Conductive Technologies’(CTI) membrane switch designs are often incorporated as featured component to customer-provided housings with incandescent backlighting. CTI can achieve a wide range of desirable aesthetic effects with our translucent, passive inks that allow backlighting to appear through the membrane switch construction. 

Fiber Optic Backlighting

Conductive Technologies offers fiber optic lamps as an integral backlighting component of membrane switch applications. Fiber optics offers the benefit of consistent light distribution for larger-sized membrane switch display areas.

LED Backlighting

Conductive Technologies (CTI) is a leading innovator for embedding light-emitting subminiature radial lead diodes (LEDs) within the matrix of membrane switches.

Specifications for our custom membrane switch-mounted LED systems (SML):

  • Switches are available in a variety of mounts; common counts are L, H and S configurations
  • L configurations use custom configured subminiature LEDS, rear spacer requires a 0.100” thickness with finished product typically a 0.138” thickness
  • H configurations utilize yoke-mounted lead configured subminiature LEDs, rear spacer requires a minimum 0.40” thickness with finished product typically a 0.120” thickness.  These may be configured to an off center angle up to 165°
  • S configurations use glass-epoxy based, surface-mount chip style LEDs and require no additional rear spacer thickness, are typically finished with a 0.80” thickness and also can be set off center at angles up to 165°
  • Actual finished package thickness dependent upon over-all design specifications and limitations
